Best Western adds three new hotels to its collection
Following a record-breaking 2017, Best Western Great Britain has added three new hotels to its collection of over 250 independently owned properties. This year has seen additions and interest particularly in its new soft brands, Sure Hotel Collection which sits in upper economy and BW Signature Collection which sits in upper midscale.
Joining the Sure Hotel Collection are Risley Hall Hotel in Derbyshire and Hotel Collingwood in the seaside town of Bournemouth, while the Cheltenham Regency Hotel joins the hard-branded Best Western Plus collection of properties.
Risley Hall Hotel, Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western, is a Grade Two listed building, which sits among acres of its own gardens and has a unique heritage as a Saxon Manor, with a history of hospitality dating back to the 11th Century. The hotel has 35 bedrooms and a conference capacity of 110 in a 16th-Century Baronial Hall.
Hotel Collingwood, Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western, is a modern building located a stone’s throw away from the famous Bournemouth beach. The family run establishment has 53 individually-styled en-suite bedrooms and leisure facilities, including a whirlpool spa and heated indoor pool.
Best Western Plus Cheltenham Regency Hotel, situated close to the centre of Cheltenham and on the doorstep of the Cotswolds. The hotel provides 47 bedrooms, as well as a conference suite with capacity for 40 people.
Due to open later this year, The Fife Arms in Braemar is being restored and returned to its former glory as a first-class hotel. It is located in the centre of the Cairngorms National Park and is a one and a half hour drive from Aberdeen airport.
The Fife Arms was once a 19th-century hunting lodge for the Duke of Fife. The hotel will have 46 bedrooms, a restaurant serving seasonal Scottish produce, a cinema, a cocktail bar and a spa, all set around a pretty courtyard planted with a heather roof. The renovation is being done by owners of an art gallery and will combine their interest in heritage, tradition, contemporary art and culture.
Manchester Crowne Plaza & Staybridge Suites will open in July
The new Manchester Double Decker Hotel is due to open on 9th July 2018. Based just off Oxford Road, guests can choose from two hotels in one building – a Crowne Plaza which is aimed at the business market and Staybridge Suites with extra space for people who want to stay longer.
The Crowne Plaza has conference space on the 2nd floor, with 7 meeting rooms with air conditioning and natural daylight. The maximum capacity for is 214 in theatre style.
The two hotels are spread over 19 floors, with around 328 bedrooms, 2 restaurants, bar and a gym. The Staybridge Suites is above the Crowne Plaza and has a terrace on the 18th floor.
The five-AA-star Grand Hotel & Spa in York has doubled in size with the opening of 100 additional bedrooms. The expansion which cost £15m, takes the property’s total bedroom count up to 207.
The bedrooms inspired by the Grande’s Edwardian heritage as the headquarters of the North Eastern Railway, are the latest element of the property’s refurbishment which has included the opening of the Rise restaurant, terrace and bar and the relaunch of Hudsons by Craig Atchinson.
The Grand has also recently opened the White Rose Lounge serving complimentary food and drinks to the hotel’s guests, while work will soon begin on an Arrival Lounge.
The Postal Museum is based in Farringdon, Central London and has two event spaces. Guests can have exclusive access to the museum galleries and a private courtyard and is suitable for all sorts of corporate events such as dinners, drinks receptions and parties through to award ceremonies, product launches and presentations.
The industrial event space has vaulted arches and original exposed brick work and has a capacity of 275 standing and 150 seated.
The Postal Museum is new to hire in 2018, including the contemporary Welcome space, the museum Galleries and a private courtyard. This area has a capacity of 140 standing and 50 seated.
The package can include a ride on Mail Rail which is a 15 minute underground exploration of 100 year old Mail Rail tunnels on miniature trains under the streets of London.
Eccleston Square hotel expands with two-bedroom Town House
The 39-bedroom Eccleston Square hotel near London’s Victoria Station has expanded with the launch of a two-bedroom house that will appeal to guests who prefer to stay in a residential property.
Dating back to 1835, the Grade II-listed, three-storey Town House is located on Ebury Bridge Road on the edge of Belgravia, close to the hotel. The house features an open plan kitchen, dining room and living room and Apple TV alongside original antique furniture, there is also a courtyard garden.

Science Gallery London an exciting new venue opening in the London Bridge area in Sept 2018. The venue offers a place to meet, connect, participate and be inspired, giving guests access to the latest though-provoking exhibitions.
Kings Venue chef’s work with local suppliers to create and deliver best quality, flavour and presented menus
Moxy, Marriott International’s budget-lifestyle brand, are set to open five hotels across the UK this year. The properties are located in London Heathrow Airport and will benefit from 437 bedrooms, Glasgow will have 181 rooms, Edinburgh 230 bedrooms, Southampton will feature 209 rooms and York 119 bedrooms. They will join the three existing Moxy UK hotels at Aberdeen Airport, London at Excel and Stratford.
There is set to be further expansion of Moxy in the future with hotels planned for Bristol, Milton Keynes and Manchester.
Moxy is one of 30 brands owned by Marriott International which operate across 6,500 hotels worldwide.
Great Scotland Yard to be UK's first Hyatt Unbound hotel
The Great Scotland Yard hotel in London is set to be the first UK hotel to join Hyatt’s Unbound Collection. The venue is located in the St James’s area of Westminster, the Grade II-listed building is being developed into a 153-bedroom luxury lifestyle hotel and is due to open at the end of this year.
Hyatt’s Unbound Collection was created in 2016 and is a collection of upper-upscale and luxury, individual hotel properties. The brand currently operates in the USA, Canada and Uruguay. Hyatt Hotels Corporation is headquartered in Chicago and has a portfolio of over 700 properties in more than 50 countries across 14 brands.
