Birmingham’s Royal Angus hotel to be converted to a Doubletree

The former 133-bedroom Royal Angus hotel in Birmingham is undergoing a £25m transformation into a 186-bedroom Doubletree by Hilton property and will re open in the Autumn.

Two extra floors and a roof terrace are being added to the building, which will house two Marco Pierre White-branded concepts: a Mr White’s English Chophouse restaurant and Marconi coffee shop.

New venue and events space, Exhibition, to open at Westfield London

Work is to start in February on the major venue Exhibition – set to open at Westfield London at the end of 2019. The venue will be located in the Grade-II listed Dimco building. Exhibiton will be spread over two floors and will be able to host 3,000 standing, have multiple rooms, formats and configurations as well as a number of adaptable relaxation areas and onsite food and drinks vendors.

The venue is named after its location in White City, west London, close to the site of the Franco British Exhibition of 1908. It will re-purpose a striking Victorian structure completed in 1899 and originally built as an electricity generating station for London Underground. 

Monkey Island Estate in Bray, Berkshire

On the 14th of February 2019, YTL Hotels are opening their newest property on a private island in the River Thames in Bray. Established across seven acres, the hotel will have 27 bedrooms and 3 suites in an English country house style with amazing views of either the River Thames or the beautiful grounds. In addition, the Monkey Island Estate will have a Barn with 11 rooms for private hire. There are 4 elegant and relaxing rooms where guests can enjoy their stay: The Monkey Island Brasserie, The Monkey Bar, The Monkey Room and The Whiskey Snug. The unique Floating Spa on the Thames will make guests’ stay more relaxing and enjoyable.

DoubleTree by Hilton opens in Lincolnshire

Opening on the outskirts of Scunthorpe, DoubleTree by Hilton Forest Pines Spa & Golf Resort offers 188 bedrooms with flexible meetings and events spaces. Within the 1,000 square metre area the largest of the 11 rooms can hold up to 400 delegates. In addition to the purpose-built events centre, the hotel, operated by RBH, offers experienced therapists in the Spa and a 27-hole championship golf course.  

Refurbishment for 150-year-old Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel

All six event rooms at the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel have been completely refurbished, creating almost 7,000sqm venue space with 20 breakout rooms. The largest meeting room, the Kings Suite, is one of Bristol’s largest event spaces with capacity for 350 guests. The refurbishment enhances the Royal wing which has it’s own private dining area.

The Miller & Carter Steakhouse opened its flagship restaurant inside the hotel in December 2018, offering breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner as well as an extensive bar list.

Updates from the Arora Group

Arora Group are a privately owned group of hotels made up of 10 hotels in London, Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted.

All the hotels have great access by road, rail & air. Arora is the small group with big MICE space, with over 100 meetings rooms to choose from and over 7500 sq2 of meetings space to fill.

The newest opening is the Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn at T4 Heathrow in October 2018, another new opening in 2019 which will be the Hilton Garden Inn at T2. It will be the tallest building at Heathrow after the control tower. 

Leonardo Hotels open property in Southampton

Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland has opened its newest property, Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour.

The property features 173 rooms and suites, as well as Southampton’s only Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill, which will maintain its place at the hotel. Meanwhile, the newly named Royal Bar will offers al fresco dining on its terrace during the warmer months. The hotel also has 13 meeting and event spaces, including the Mayflower function room, which holds up to 500 people.

Manor of Groves Hotel – Good to know…

Manor of Groves is set in 150 acres of stunning grounds and golf course, with plenty of spaces available for team building, BBQs or your own mini festival! It is only 20 minutes from Stansted Airport and in easy reach of the M11 and M25.

The property has two sister hotels – Shendish Manor near Hemel Hempstead and Regency Park Hotel near Newbury. Also opening in April is a new hotel, the Atrium Hotel Heathrow, the venue will have over 600 bedrooms and a function capacity over 500.

The leisure and gym facilities,  which are complimentary for residents to use during their stay has recently been refurbished and features, a 20m pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi plus a 3-floor gym including a group cycle studio.

Olympia London redevelopment

A £1bn project to turn Olympia London into a world-leading cultural hub has been approved by planners. Work will begin from next year, with the first tenants moving in by 2023.

Permission has been granted to transform the 132-year-old exhibition centre into an arts, entertainment, events and creative business quarter which will feature;

  • A 1,500-seat theatre
  • A 1,000-seat performing arts venue
  • Two hotels
  • A 18,580 sqm logistics centre
