Fairmont Hotels – Renovations And Refurbishments

Here’s a quick round-up of improvements to hotels in the Fairmont group which were carried out in 2016 or are ongoing:

FAIRMONT REY JUAN CARLOS 1, BARCELONA

A €35M renovation programme is underway at the Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos 1 in Barcelona. The lobby lounge has already been completed and the renovations are on schedule to be finish by summer 2017.

FAIRMONT ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND

Renovations have been completed at the Fairmont St Andrews. All public areas, restaurants and guest accommodation have been updated in this resort hotel with two championship golf courses and conference facilities for up to 800 delegates.

FAIRMONT VIER JAHRESZEITEN, HAMBURG

This historic hotel is almost 120 years old and a full renovation programme was completed in March 2016, including all 156 rooms and suites and nine food and beverage outlets.

FAIRMONT THE QUEEN ELIZABETH. MONTREAL

Fairmont, The Queen Elizabeth has closed to undergo a $140 million transformation project. The hotel will reopen in June 2017.

Woodlands Grange Bedroom Refurbishment

Woodland Grange in Leamington Spa have recently been going through a large bedroom refurbishment during the last couple of months of 2016. All 114 bedrooms will have the brand new look from January 2017, with a sleek new finish and state of the art amenities. There are a couple of different themes and colours over the rooms therefore great for regular business travellers as there will always be something new to discover. The venue has always been known for its flexible conference facilities but with these developments will hopefully be known for its all-round facilities.

New Conference Centre Planned For Reading Football Club

Reading football club has announced its plans for a new conference centre at the Royal Elm Park development beside the Madejski stadium. The plans have been submitted to reading council and the venue is designed to provide a viable alternative to London venues.

The convention centre will offer a ‘ballroom’ and ‘banquet hall’ capable of hosting up to 4000 people theatre style, and 2000 for a banquet. It will also offer a range of flexible meeting and seminar spaces. The convention centre will also be home to an ice rink which will be able to transform into a meeting hall with a capacity for 2480 people theatre style.

Reading already has an existing range of hotel accommodation, retail and restaurants and has good public transport links which will be enhanced by the arrival of Crossrail and the new green park station.

New AtléTico De Madrid Wanda Metropolitano Stadium

The Madrid football club Atlético de Madrid has announced the opening of a spectacular venue for events in its new stadium Wanda Metropolitano, scheduled for September 2017.

The space has more than 11,000 m2 of VIP areas and it has been designed to be the most modern convention centre in the city. Located in the new stadium of thefootball club, it features rooms with terraces and views of the pitch, 22 multipurpose spaces (from 250 to 3,500 m2), an auditorium for up to 400 guests and premium suites. All the spaces have large LCD TVs, multimedia connection, and high-speed Wi-Fi , and are accessible from the private underground car park by lift.

The new areas can be customised for all kinds of conferences, conventions, professional fairs, exhibitions, symposia and social events. The catering and banqueting service, provided by Centerplate, the world’s leading hospitality company, will ensure a culinary experience of the highest level.

The new Wanda Metropolitano stadium and meeting venues will permit Atlético de Madrid to become the first club in the world with a stadium fully designed with LED lights for personalising this city’s iconic building with corporate colours and thrill attendees with impressive screenings on its roof. C&Amp;It Best London Hotel Opening In 2016

C&IT have released what they think to be the top 5 hotel openings in London in 2016 and business is booming in the east of London with some high profile openings:

1. Intercontinental London – The O2 – opened January 2016 with one of the largest pillar free ballrooms in Europe

2. The Doubletree by Hilton London Excel – 260 bedrooms and meeting space for 90

3. Canary Riverside Plaza – opened in June with 230sqm ballroom and an indoor pool that runs alongside the Thames

4. CitizenM Hotel Tower of London – opened in July opposite the Tower of London with the cloudM sky bar with a wraparound balcony

5. Hyatt Place London Heathrow/Hayes – opened in May as the first Hyatt Place branded hotel in the UK and the second will Heathrow in 2017

News From Iceland

Fosshotel Húsavík (Hotels of Iceland) recently re-opened following renovation. The hotel is now the largest conference hotel in North Iceland, with 110 bedrooms and 8 conference and meeting rooms. The hotel can now host an event for up to 400 people in a standing reception.

The Canopy Reykjavík City Centre had its official opening on 18 November. Since it launched in the summer, the hotel has been fully booked.

Excel – One Of London’S Biggest Event Venues

ExCel London is one of the biggest event venues in London, offering 1000,000m squared of flexible space, an auditorium for up to 6,500 delegates, and 79 individual meeting rooms. Last year the venue successfully defined its ambition to be the ‘Home of World Leading Events’, working with a wide range of clients, including LinkedIn, Microsoft, Amazon Web services, Hewlett Packard Enterprises and the European Society of Cardiology. These events, among others, contributed £2.9bn in economic impact to the UK and supported 31,000 jobs. The venue was also commended for its focus on investment, including the introduction of a £1.5m meeting and training facility. ExCel has invested in upgrades to improve its wi-fi infrastructure, delegate catering and commercial partnerships, such as the agreement with CityJet to provide competitive pricing for delegates arriving at London City airport.

Hyatt Hotels Plans To Open Second Hyatt Place Hotel In The Uk

Hyatt Hotels have announced plans to open its second Hyatt Place hotel in the UK. The new Hyatt Place will be located on the doorstep of Heathrow airport following an extensive renovation of the existing building. The hotel will have 350 rooms and seven meeting and function spaces which can accommodate between two and 100 delegates. There will also be a gym and ‘coffee to cocktails’ bar. The new opening marks a milestone for Hyatt as the Hyatt place brand continues to expend worldwide.
