Wellcome Wing Basement at the Science Museum opens for corporate hire
The Wellcome Wing Basement has reopened for exclusive corporate hire.
Located at The Science Museum in South Kensington, the flexible blank canvas space can accommodate up to 400 guests for product launches, fashion shows, exhibitions, conferences and experimental events, the options are endless.
The venue can be hired exclusively, or as a separate area for breakout sessions and drinks receptions in conjunction with other spaces at the Museum such as the IMAX theatre. The venue was only available for a few months last year however the high demand has resulted in a re-launch of the space for corporate clients.
The brand new Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques, due to open in May, is housed in the former residence of the Dukes of Granada de Ega y Villahermosa, art collectors and members of the Madrid intelligentsia of the mid-nineteenth century. The hotel truly encapsulates everything that of Madrid has to offer and is the newest addition to the Gran Meliá brand. The ME hotel opens in Miami and 11 Howard in New York this month
The first ME hotel has opened in Miami. The hotel is located in the downtown area close to Adrienne Arsht Center, American Airlines Arena, Perez Art Museum and the new epicenter of the city, Miami Worldcenter. Facilities include a 14th-floor terrace, two cabana-lined swimming pools, a spa, STK steakhouse and 129 bedrooms. There is a ballroom which can be divided in to two sections, with views of the bay. The Aura Lounge, pool deck and rooftop bar can all be used for breaks, receptions or meals.
11 Howard is a 221-room boutique property in New York City’s SoHo district and a member of Design Hotels. Its concept is one of ‘conscious hospitality’, meaning that it works with a range of local business and not-for-profit companies. It’s located in what the hotel declares ‘the last old, cool domain in SoHo’, though its style is purely Scandinavian. Features include self check-in and ‘smart’ room service, a restaurant and local artwork. There is also a co-working space, a growing trend in city hotels.

Chelsea Football Club has opened the Director Lounge for meetings and events within the Stamford Bridge ground. Previously this area was reserved for senior club members only, however is now available for exclusive hire with space for up to 150 for a drinks reception or 48 for dinner. The room features the Chelsea Football Club trophy cabinet and a terrace which leads off of the meeting room with views of the pitch.
The Belfry Hotel & Resort launch Ryder Cup themed golf course
At the start of this year The Belfry launched their Ryder-Cup themed mini golf course. The 12 hole course features 9 holes based on some of the most iconic holes from golf courses that have hosted world famous matches, along with three bonus holes incorporating a number of challenges and water hazards along the way. The mini golf course can accommodate up to 48 delegates at a time so is perfect for team building for smaller groups and can be hired out exclusively.
The venue, which was originally a textile mill and has recently been used a creative arts and music hotspot, can host a maximum of 1,400 guests for a standing event. Seated banquets can also be arranged, for groups of up to 350.
This developing space also caters for outdoor events, with a large area able to accommodate a marquee along with wooden decking and seating. The venue can also host street food vendors for summer events and BBQs in the city.
Matt Long, venue and events manager at Canal Mills, said: “With four successful years under our belt as a music and arts venue, and having already hosted companies such as Spotify and Red Bull, we’re now officially launching Canal Mills as a multi-functional events space, which we hope will be a great addition to the events scene in Leeds.”
Annual overnight stays in Madrid hotels surpass 18 million for the first time
The number of annual overnight stays in the city of Madrid has surpassed 18 million for the first time ever. Data from the EOH (Hotel Occupancy Survey) conducted in March reveal a sharp and intense growth in tourism demand, the highest for any February on record in terms of both numbers of visitors and overnight stays.
The growth in demand was helped along in particular by international tourism, which showed year-on-year growth of 14.9%, but domestic tourism also grew by 8.4%.
Nearly seven hundred thousand tourists (691,665) visited the city of Madrid in February, the highest figure ever recorded for any February. Year-on-year growth was 11.2% (12.2% in the Region of Madrid), following a spectacular 10-point rise in comparison to January.
In the twelve preceding months, a total of 8,961,274 travellers visited the city of Madrid, the highest number ever recorded.
The Mailbox completed its £50m renovation at the end of last year, including a new cinema opening within the shopping centre. The Urban Room was unveiled in October and can host smaller meetings during the day, or events for up to 300 delegates after trading hours as the space is surrounded by shops.
