The “Quality of Life Study” examined the quality of living in 221 cities – with New York in the United States, as a benchmark – and concluded, for the second consecutive year that Vienna (Austria) is the city with the best quality of life. Lisbon was the only Portuguese city to be analysed, ranking 44th in a survey led by Vienna, with Zurich (2nd), Geneva (8th) and Bern (10th) in Switzerland; Munich (4th), Dusseldorf (6th) and Frankfurt (7th) in Germany, and Copenhagen (9th) in Denmark. The living conditions in cities are reviewed annually, taking into account 39 criteria, grouped into ten categories, including social, economic and political factors as well as medical health, schools, education, public services and transport, entertainment, consumer goods, housing and climate.
