Over the years we’ve raised more than £200K, supporting local charities close to our hearts. How to get involved with the Trinity EDGE Challenge

Our Trinity Triple Challenge, now rebranded as Trinity EDGE Challenge is back!

Over the years we’ve raised more than £200K, supporting local charities that are close to our heart. Now we’re delighted to bring this back for 2023.

How does it work?

Our team are tasked with visiting 100 different venues each year.
As part of those venue visits, the team will be reaching out for donations that will be added as prizes for the auction. The auction will go live in October.
We will be running a social media campaign through July, August and September. This will promote the different prizes that have been donated with a big drive in October during the live bidding.
Depending on number of prizes donated, there will be approximately 5 weeks of Lots that will launch at the beginning of October. During this time we will be encouraging our network to be making generous donations for the chance to win one of the amazing prizes.

Our Commitment

Trinity EDGE Solutions will cover all employee travel to ensure all proceeds go to charity. Our employees will source the most sustainable options to carry out their site visits and will only attend inspections that are relevant to their own product knowledge.

Our Charities

Don’t Lose Hope. A charity that offers a professional counselling service for all members of the community from age 4 upwards. This is a free service for families/individuals receiving certain state benefits and affordable to all others and now proud to be able to offer their online shop.
Second Helpings. A project run in partnership with Stamford Methodist Church and the whole community. Their aim is to ‘feed bellies not bins’ and they are passionate about reducing food waste and working with the community to reduce environmental impact.
Bumps and Beyond. Founded in 2009 by Alice Scott in a small cupboard on the Stamford Hospital site. Ten years on and it is now a fully-fledged charity in its own right and has helped thousands of parents and care-givers!
Three Counties Dog Rescue – Bourne, Lincolnshire. Three Counties Dog Rescue has successfully re-homed over 7000 dogs and cats since its formation in 1971. All the animals are neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before re-homing. All work involving rehoming, is done entirely by voluntary and unpaid helpers.

Is CSR important to you and the venue you use?

It makes sense to use a venue that reflects your company’s CSR philosophy and policies, but do you check this with them before booking your event? It’s important that event organisers make the attendees feel welcome and the attitude and infrastructure of the venue is a part of this. Jacqui Kavanagh, CEO of EDGE Venues, share her thoughts on what to consider for meetings and events when looking at CSR.

Connecting with the community

Many venues undertake initiatives that support local projects. In America, some venues are creating co-working spaces which can be used by community-based groups. Businesses pay to hire the venue in the usual way, but outside these hours the space can be used by specific groups to encourage and develop their education or skills. There are opportunities for event organisers to contribute to these community projects, either through a team-based activity or meeting people in need of mentoring or training.

Charitable programmes

Venues often support local charitable programmes and an event organiser can partner with them to give back to the local area. This can be done through donations, not necessarily monetary, but giving unused food and drink, stationery and other items to refuges, schools and non-profit organisations.

Sustainability

Selecting a venue that is ‘green’ is good for the environment but can also be good for the delegates. Many venues are building ‘green’ features into their properties, solar power to water reduction, rooftop gardens and recycling points.

Using an accessible and inclusive venue

Everyone needs to move around the venue with ease and in most properties ramps and access to lifts is standard. However, some venues use braille text on signage, hearing loop systems, and have trained their staff specially to understand these needs.

Diversity

Many venues have diversity policies in place, but just don’t publish them. You can ask the venue about their diversity programme or check with independent organisations such as the Disability Equality Index.

A purpose-built conference centre will have different facilities to a hotel group or independent hotel or smaller, unusual venue and their CSR programmes with reflect this, so it’s worth asking them for details before booking your event to make sure that their philosophy works well with your company’s CSR code.

Tips for Greener Meetings

Sustainability is getting more and more important when planning an event or a meeting. Every little change can make a big difference in the carbon footprint of events.

Aranka Sarkozi, Event Consultant from Trinity Event Solutions, shares her 4 top tips for greener meetings:

Pick a Green Venue: Choosing an eco-friendly venue or hotel, with modern systems and technology will improve your event’s carbon footprint. CSR policies are getting really important, when it comes to making the decision.
Locally sourced food: Logistic is one of the biggest contributors to air pollution. By choosing local food and drinks can reduce this. Also, locally sourced foods are tastier and fresher.
Leftover food: We all know that there is always some leftover food after buffet lunches and refreshment breaks. Choose a venue, which has partnership with local charities. Donate the leftover food to them.
Sustainable activities: Take your team out for an outdoor activity. Organise planting trees or cleaning beaches. It can give an extra boost to event sustainability.

H10 Atlantic Sunset, a new 5* hotel in Tenerife

This 5* hotel opened in June 2019 in Playa Paraíso – southern Tenerife. It faces west and has sea views of the sunset all year round, hence the name. The transfer from Tenerife South airport is 26km and takes about 20 minutes.

The hotel is contemporary in style with a bright interior. It has 291 spacious bedrooms, four swimming pools, and a Despacio Spa Centre. The H10 Atlantic Sunset has 11 bars and restaurants and the hotel offers different pricing options from bed and breakfast to an all-inclusive package.

For events, there are two meeting rooms, each of which has capacity for 110 people. In addition, there is a multi-purpose space for meetings and outdoor areas for breaks and banqueting.

Tenerife is a good choice for events, with an average temperature of 22 degrees all year round. For time spent outside the conference, there are a variety of activities available for groups, using the water, volcanic mountains, local gastronomy, as well as numerous golf courses.

For companies interested in sustainability there are activities which can be organised with the Environmental Participation and Volunteer Office. Divers can help to regenerate a micro marine reserve while discovering the beauty of the seabed or it’s possible to help with the supervised release of turtles. On land, there are projects to help people with disabilities by taking part in adapted hill walking using a wheelchair designed uneven terrain, removing rubbish from nature spots and maintenance work on forest paths.

Meeting Needs delivers clean, fresh water to deaf school in Niger

Clean, fresh water is now available to the Niamey School for the Deaf in Niger, thanks to funding from industry charity Meeting Needs.

This means no more walking miles to collect water and more time for more productive activities, like the school’s new vegetable garden – which is also benefiting from regular irrigation.

The construction of a well and water tower with a solar-powered pump was a project undertaken by charity Remember Niger Coalition and financed with a grant of just £4,905. The completion of the project is the first step in a larger water and garden project, which will provide 164 students, 20 staff and teachers and more than 70 deaf community members with clean water, nutritious meals and gardening skills each year.

After the first water was delivered, Kara VanderKamp, executive director of Remember Niger Coalition, said: “It was awesome to see everything in place and the water coming out of the spigots. The director, teachers, students and deaf community members are so happy. The children were so cute when we turned on the spigots. They would try to sneak turns putting their hands in the water so they could drink it and rub it over their faces and heads.

“They are so thankful to have a consistent source of water for the children, especially during the hot season. Additionally, their garden will have a greater yield because they will be able to expand it and consistently water the crops. The fruit and vegetables help supplement the students daily lunch and provide much needed nutrition.”

Meeting Needs executive committee’s Lene Corgan said: “This is a fantastic project that is a real life-changer for so many people. It is also completely sustainable and exactly the kind of project Meeting Needs is here to support.”
