Meeting Professionals International held an event on 18th January 2016 with a mix of agencies, suppliers, consultants and venues to look at trends and predictions for 2016. Speakers included leading economists and Jacqui Kavanagh of Trinity was on the panel of events industry specialists.

Following Accor’s acquisition of the FRHI Hotels & Resorts’ Fairmont, Raffles and Swissôtel brands, in December and Marriott’s purchase of the Starwood group in November, there are now is now another major brand up for sale. Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group is reported to have appointed advisers to look at the disposal of their portfolio of 1,370 properties.
In addition, the Hong Kong’s owners of the Rosewood London (pictured) have put the hotel up for sale with a guide price of £450M. The hotel underwent an £85M refurbishment in 2013.
Offers are to be invited for around a £700M for the freehold of the 1,059-bed Hilton London Metropole and long leasehold of the 790-bed Hilton Birmingham Metropole, which were acquired in a sale and manageback deal in 2006.

Copenhagen is a fantastic destination for conference and events. It is a capital city where hotels and venues have worked together to create a meeting incentive to benefit conferences. As a coastal city this benefits from beautiful coastal views on the 15-minute drive from the Airport to the city centre. The Post Office has published its annual survey on international destinations, comparing eight tourist items in 46 destinations worldwide – including dinner for two, coffees and drinks.

Every year the World Capital Institute recognizes the world’s best centres of knowledge with the “Most Admired Knowledge Cities Award”. In 2015 Vienna took first place in the category “Knowledge City Region”. Construction has started on the extension and reconfiguration of Park Plaza Riverbank London. The room count is expected to increase by an additional 184 rooms, taking the total number of rooms to 645. The extension is expected to be completed in 2016.
The University of Sheffield announce Diamond Building
The University of Sheffield are delighted to announce the opening of the new £81m Diamond Building as part of the universities portfolio of conference & event facilities within the city.
The Diamond Building provides the university with nine brand new lecture theatres, the largest of which can accommodate 450 delegates; all lecture theatres are furnished with hi-tech presentation facilities & corresponding exhibition space in addition to varied catering provisions ranging from light refreshments, buffet lunches to more formal dining.
