In 2020, the W brand (recently part of Marriott International) will open a new hotel in Prague. The former Grand Europa Hotel which originally opened in 1905 will be renovated to house the new hotel and all of its 154 bedrooms, 350 sqm of event space, various restaurants, rooftop bar and spa.


This is the first W in the Czech Republic and it’ll be part of their expanding portfolio which sets to increase their hotel count from 50 to 75 by 2020.

A new entity created by the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Municipality of Florence, is focused on sustaining tourism to the Tuscan capital. Destination Florence will expand and diversify the city’s offerings and improve its marketing and promotional strategies. Its main goals are to encourage tourism, extend the average length of stay, track attendance and tourist behaviour, and improve the image of Florence worldwide. A new website, destinationflorence.com, will go live in July, and will offer information and the ability to book tickets for museums, theatres, sporting events, taxis, and city tours.

The Doubletree by Hilton brand has recently opened its door to a new property in New York’s Times Square. The hotel is in the very heart of the city, just a stones throw from key city attractions and transport links. 
The hotel features 612 modern bedrooms as well as a rooftop bar overlooking the stunning city views of New York. There is also a restaurant and fitness centre.

There is the one meeting room for 15 boardroom style.

Located in the heart of celebrated spa town, Evian-les-Bains in France, Evian Resort has played host to a glittering list of clientele spanning royalty, celebrities and notables over the course of two centuries. Since the arrival of the Hotel Royal at the turn of the 20th century, Evian Resort has slowly grown into its 47 acres and now comprises two hotels: the Palace-rated Hotel Royal and the elegant Hotel Ermitage.

In keeping with its illustrious past, Evian Resort has completed a thorough renovation and development programme over the last seven years. Most recently (July 2015) the Hotel Royal reopened after an extensive renovation, preceded by the Hotel Ermitage’s own refurbishment by acclaimed architect and spa specialist Patrick Ribes. The resort’s flagship facilities including Les Thermes Evian and the Evian golf course also underwent total renovations in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

The Nyx Milan will open at the end of February. Nyx is a new brand from Leonardo Hotels. They are lifestyle hotels, creative and avant-garde, inspired by the city where they are located. Every furnishing and accessory is made to measure, as well as using works of art by local artists.

 

The Nyx Milan is located close to the Central Station and will incorporate Milan’s fashion, art and music culture.The restaurant, patio bar and lounge are all connected to each other and will start the eventing as spaces relax and eat, but later the area will be transformed into a club.


The Nyx will have 299 bedrooms including 21 suites and flexible event spaces for up to 300 guests. 


Nyx hotels are also being built in Prague, Munich and Madrid. In Israel, the first NYX Hotel was opened last August, in one of the most fashionable locations of Tel Aviv.

Here’s a roundup of news from the Minor group’s hotels in Portugal. Some properties were upgraded in 2016 and others are being done now: Firstly let’s take a look at the Lisbon area:


The Tivoli Lisboa


Renovation of this hotel is due to be completed by the end of March 2017. The hotel is right in the centre of Lisbon and there will be a new lobby, restaurants, health club and spa as well as 286 renovated bedrooms. As you can see from the picture, this hotel has a lovely rooftop bar and terrace.


Avani Lisboa


The public areas are being renovated, including landscaping, the façade, verandas, entrance and reception area. The bedrooms will have a contemporary feel with new technology.


Tivoli Oriente


The bedrooms, meeting rooms and public areas were renovated during 2016.     


Tivoli Palacio de Seteais


This 18th century palace is located in the Sintra hills, surrounded by stunning views and beautiful mountains. It has 30 bedrooms and is classical in style.


Moving on the Algarve …


Anantara Vilamoura


This hotel will be rebranded as Anantara on the 1st April and it will be the first Anantara hotel in Europe. Anantara is a luxury hospitality brand for modern travellers.



Tivoli Carvoeiro


This hotel will open on 1st April having been fully refurbished and it will now be a 5* property, not 4* as it was previously.


Tivoli Marina Vilamoura


The Congress Centre, which holds 3,500 people will be completed in May this year. It has views of the beach and marina and a new pool area which can be used for private functions. There will be 3 floors, with convertible meeting rooms, and adjacent foyers and terraces to serve coffee breaks and other F&B functions. The meeting space will be flexible. Bedrooms in this hotel were refurbished in 2016.


The Minor group has 149 hotels in 22 countries across the world.

The iconic W Hotel in Barcelona is transforming its 473 guest bedrooms this year. All rooms will have a new design which will highlight the stunning sea views from all of the rooms, plus the brand’s passion for fashion, design, music and entertainment. Each room will now include Nespresso coffee machines, 49-inch televisions, Bose Bluetooth sound systems and a new innovate lighting system. 

The refurbishment will be completed floor-by-floor and as it is a soft refurbishment there will be minimal disruption. The rest of the hotel will be operating as usual.

All of the rooms are set to be completed by the end of April 2017.
