Nilesh Patel, Regional Fundraiser for Sue Ryder – Thorpe Hall Hospice visited the Trinity offices on 6th February to present to the team. Sue Ryder offers specialist palliative and respite care for people living with incurable illnesses and is one of Trinity’s chosen charities for 2014. As part of the Trinity Triple Challenge we are aiming to raise approximately £7,000 to donate towards the appeal which hopes to raise £6 million pounds by March 2015 for the new hospice at Thorpe Hall in Peterborough.

The new hospice will give patients and their families increased privacy, easy patient access as all of the rooms will be on the ground floor, and in summary, a building that is energy efficient and fit for purpose. The old building which is Grade 1 listed will eventually be used to hold events including conferences, training and weddings which will help towards the running costs of the new hospice.

London venues are steering away from discounting and offering added value in order to win business according to new research. The 2013 London Venues Business Report surveyed 110 venues and hotels across the capital and found that only 8% won business by offering clients ‘added value’ (down from 26% in 2012). The maximum levels of discounts being offered on day delegate rates was between 21-38% whilst 40% of venues said they did not flex their prices at all in either high or low demand periods. Short lead times continue to be the norm with events valued at more than £10,000 possessing a lead time of 5.7 months and events with a value of up to £5000 at 2.8 months.

Jurys Inn Share Their News!

Becky Carter from Jurys Inn Birmingham came to the Trinity offices today to update us on the hotel and the Jurys Inn Group as a whole.

Birmingham finished a £4.7 million refurbishment in December 2012 and is looking fantastic, with a real boutique feel (despite the 445 bedrooms and being one of the largest hotels in Birmingham city centre!). The group have already spent £25 million on refurbishments in 2012, with another £30 million due to be spent by the end of 2013, and are now offering a stylish, value for money product, which is a far cry from what many of us think of when we hear ‘Jurys Inn’.

The London Islington property is another one to benefit from development – they are currently building a new wing to the hotel, which will sit directly behind the current hotel and be connected via a short walkway. This new addition will create another 147 bedrooms and 6 meeting rooms and is due to be complete by September 2014.
