One of the most historic and luxurious hotels in London, The Rubens at the Palace hotel overlooking the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace in London’s Victoria, has now been classified a five-star hotel by the distinguished AA hotel rating-scheme after the completion of a multi-million-pound refurbishment earlier this year.


The hotel’s advancements, including two elegant new restaurants, The English Grill and the Curry Room, two vibrant bars, The Leopard Bar, offering a choice of over 200 whiskies an 30 Champagnes complete with music from a live jazz and swing band and the vibrant New York Bar. Fully renovated accommodation and public areas, have been recognised via an independent AA assessment resulting in an upgrade to five-star status.

A multi-million pound 3 storey extension to the terminal building has been announced for Leeds-Bradford airport. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and will accommodate baggage reclaim, customs, immigration and international arrivals process.

Once the new building is completed, works will then commence on re-modelling the existing terminal building to provide a new security central search area, enhanced check-in facilities, and a simplification of the customer journey through the existing departure lounge, which will also include new retail and Food & Beverage offers.

This work is expected to be complete for summer 2020.

Budget-boutique brand Point A Hotels are due to open two new properties in 2019 in Edinburgh and London’s Kensington.


Point A Edinburgh will be located close to Haymarket Station when it opens in June, with 149 bedrooms. Point A London Kensington, opening July, will feature 103 bedrooms in a new building with a retained late-Victorian façade on West Cromwell Road near Earl’s Court station.


the new properties will join the six Point A hotels in London – in Shoreditch, Liverpool Street, King’s Cross St Pancras, Paddington, Westminster and Canary Wharf – and one in Glasgow.

Ashton Gate Stadium has today revealed comprehensive plans for a £100m development to extend the stadium footprint to encompass a new sports and entertainment quarter for the city.

The centrepiece of the proposed development is the Ashton Gate Sports & Convention Centre – a 4000-capacity venue which will provide a permanent home for Bristol Flyers basketball team. The proposal includes additional housing, offices, a multi-storey car park along with two hotels.

Speaking of the proposed development, Ashton Gate chairman Martin Griffiths said:

“We are pleased to be able to reveal these plans. It has been more than two years in the planning to ensure that Phase II of Ashton Gate’s redevelopment into a city quarter focused on sport and entertainment was indeed viable, sustainable and most importantly achievable.

The National Science and Media Museum in Bradford has expanded its events offering with the addition of the Make Space room. Make Space can accommodate up to 70 for dinner or house an exhibition with views across Bradford city.

IHG is set to open Kimpton Fitzroy London, its first boutique luxury Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants in the UK.


Earlier this year IHG and Covivio entered an agreement to re brand and operate 12 hotels (and one pipeline hotel) currently operating under the Principal and De Vere brands. The Principal London is the first of these hotels to be re-branded as Kimpton Fitzroy London. Next year will see a continuation of the brand’s momentum with additional Kimpton hotel openings in highly desirable cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester. 


The Kimpton Fitzroy London will be named after the original architect of the building Charles Fitzroy Doll and will honour its namesake with a glamorous cocktail bar called Fitz’s Bar.

Event planners can now host events at Lindeth Howe which was formerly owned by the author Beatrix Potter. To celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, the Lake District hotel has unveiled a new look, including the Hill Top room for business gatherings and conferences. 


Named after Potter’s famous farmhouse, the Hill Top room is filled with nature-inspired furnishings and can host up to 42 delegates. The restaurant is also available for up to 80 people, and there are options for smaller boardroo- style gatherings and seminars in a variety of breakout rooms.

Lindeth Howe’s 2 AA rosette-rated restaurant can provide options ranging from light bites throughout the day to full banquet-style meals and events.

Delegates can be picked up straight from the train in a luxury mini-coach and taken to the hotel. There is also the option for team-building activities to be part of a corporate stay.
