After a good chill out in the hotel we all got dressed up and went for dinner. Druids Glen has recently been awarded with double rosette in there restaurant and the food did not fail to impress, as we drank, ate and reflected on both the day and the night prior. After a satisfying meal we headed to the bar for a final drink while listening the live music and enjoying the last night of what had been an eventful and truly enjoyable weekend, made better by great company and outstanding hospitality from our hosts.

After a short respite we were on the move again, we were given our own individual golf carts and raced each other like kids to the next destination. We arrived at the driving range and it was time to try are hand at a spot of golf.  After an hour of coaching, making leaps and bounds in our golfing expertise, we were all very tiered after a long day of activity’s and luckily for us it was time to head back to the hotel and have a rest and refresh before dinner (not after racing each other back in the golf carts of course).

We arrived at Druids Glen after a short bus journey (under 1 hour). For such a short journey the change in scenery was amazing we were transported to a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the Dublin City life. Upon entrance to Druid Glen we were greeted at the door with energising smoothie to wake us up after the nap that many had on the bus. We then had a brief tour of the hotel. The relaxing scenery was mirrored by the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel. All the rooms have large amounts of natural daylight pouring in and amazing views of the trees and golf course. We then went to see the old manor house that is now the golf club, where we viewed the space which would be great for an offsite dinner. We finished the tour having Guinness and oysters on the roof terrace enjoying the views.

The Teeling distillery is the only working whiskey distillery in Dublin. It also has a brilliant tour that is fully immersive and allows you to view all the stages of the whisky making process.  The tour finished with a whiskey tasting at the end that allows you to understand the difference between Irish whiskey and the Scottish Whisky. Combined with the viewing of the process it gives you a very good understanding of how these differences occur. The tasting room would also work perfect for a dinner in a unique venue and can be combined with the tasting tour for an added unique touch.

We finished the tour having Guinness and oysters on the roof terrace enjoying the views.

When we returned for a brief freshen up at the Croke Park Hotel  we could hear things livening up outside.  We then ventured back across the road to see the stadium in full swing. The group was given a private box to see an Ed Sheeran concert and the atmosphere was immense. The event was very well organised with large amounts of staff and police keeping everything in order.  After the event the stadium cleared in approximately 10 – 15 minutes and crowds of people either headed home or into the city for a big night out.

Waking up on the Saturday not feeling 100% I was grateful for the well fitted room and after taking a long shower to wake myself up and enjoying a Full English breakfast.  I was ready for the action packed Saturday we had planned. We next headed over to the Teeling Distillery.

The Teeling Distillery

The Teeling distillery is the only working whiskey distillery in Dublin. It also has a brilliant tour that is fully immersive and allows you to view all the stages of the whisky making process.  The tour finished with a whiskey tasting at the end that allows you to understand the difference between Irish whiskey and the Scottish Whisky. Combined with the viewing of the process it gives you a very good understanding of how these differences occur. The tasting room would also work perfect for a dinner in a unique venue and can be combined with the tasting tour for an added unique touch.

Druids Glen

We arrived at Druids Glen after a short bus journey (under 1 hour). For such a short journey the change in scenery was amazing we were transported to a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the Dublin City life. Upon entrance to Druid Glen we were greeted at the door with energising smoothie to wake us up after the nap that many had on the bus. We then had a brief tour of the hotel. Situated close to the River Thames, and very close to London Bridge station, the Hilton London Tower Bridge has 245 bedrooms.  There are 12 flexible meeting rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors.  In addition there are two unusual areas which can be used exclusively for groups: the roof terrace with views of the Shard and there is a semi-private bar or dining area, the Snug, which is located off the main bar.  I was here in the early evening and both the hotel and the surrounding area were lively and Jamie’s Italian restaurant which is part of the hotel was busy with both residential guests and non-residents.  Jamie’s can also be booked for groups.

This hotel is just 5 minutes’ walk from Canary Wharf tube station (very quick on the Jubilee Line from mainline London stations) and has eight flexible meeting rooms on the 1st floor.  All the small meeting rooms have natural daylight and the largest room has its own foyer area with natural daylight although the room is in the centre of the building.   All the meeting rooms were refurbished in February 2015 and to encourage creativity there is a relaxed break out area with bean bags and seating pods.  The bedrooms in this hotel were impressively large and very comfortable.  I will remember the lunch for a very long time, as the beef casserole was outstanding.

I really enjoyed visiting these two hotels, which are contemporary in style as both of them were opened about nine years ago.  They have a good feeling and have undergone refurbishment, so are smart and clean.  Both hotels are great options for conferences and meetings in London and have capacity for up to 400 attendees.   The business lounges have tea and coffee available throughout the day.  Also, both have good transport links as well as friendly and helpful staff.

The educational programme also included a central panel session focusing on procurement. Senior representatives from companies including Capita Travel and Events, British and American Tobacco and Compass Group UK & Ireland discussed how they dealt with the recession – and how it provided them with the opportunity to add value and profitability to all aspects of selection, purchasing and interaction with suppliers.

The first day saw both agent and member venues attend a session delivered by behavioural economist and strategist Roger Martin-Fagg, who explained his outlook on the economy over the next three years, and how members can learn to be even more economically intelligent. Continuing on the economy, Alistair Turner from the Business Visits & Events Partnership and Britain for Events described what is on the government’s agenda when it comes to recognising the importance of the events industry.

The headline event, hosted by the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on 20 and 21 July, this year centred around a Better Business Toolkit – part of the association and current chair Jacqui Kavanagh’s aim to help members do better business, and do business better together.
