The Hotel Métropole in Monte-Carlo has invited designer Karl Lagerfeld to redesign its exterior. The fashion world’s most prolific multi-tasker, designer Karl Lagerfeld, is branching out in to the world of luxury hotels. Having cut his teeth with a suite made from chocolate for ice cream giant Magnum, the Chanel creative director is redesigning a hotel in Monaco – home to one or two of his haute couture customers. The Hotel Métropole in Monte-Carlo has invited Lagerfeld to make over its exterior premises including the pool, terrace, gardens and a new Joel Robuchon restaurant. The first instalment of the project will be unveiled in July, but in the meantime, Lagerfeld has composed some frescos to create a feel of the hotel’s new look.

The famed cruise liner Queen Elizabeth 2, which was bought by Dubai investment firm Istithmar World in 2007 for US$100 million, will be converted into a 300-room floating hotel. The hotel will be moored in the emirate’s Port Rashid facility, which will likewise undergo a massive transformation to become a seaport village complete with a maritime museum and a cruise ship terminal complex. The conversion of QE2 has already started and the floating hotel is expected to welcome guests by early 2014. Istithmar Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said the company will not carry out major renovations or alterations to the vessel as they aim to preserve QE2’s tradition which will hopefully attract many visitors.

Now that one of London’s most prestigious and talked about venues, Cutty Sark, is taking bookings for private and corporate events starting in October 2012, Collette and Kerry took the time to visit the venue on a recent trip to London.

The 19th century vessel has been lifted and suspended three metres above her old position, allowing visitors to walk, dine or dance beneath her and for the first time to properly appreciate her beautiful shape – the very reason why she has been famous since the 1870s.

All of Cutty Sark’s three decks are available for exclusive hire. The new 1000m2 gallery beneath the Cutty Sark, ably demonstrated by Collette, can accommodate over 200 guests for formal dining or 300 guests for receptions.

Department store Harvey Nichols has teamed up with Manchester City Football Club to open a new corporate suite at the Premier League Champions home, The City of Manchester Stadium. The custom-designed space for up to 10 people can even provide a personal shopper, a cocktail masterclass and spa treatments.

In the past 6 months, they have done major revamps to the high-speed glass fiber internet; the second largest meeting room (up to 250 people theater); both the lobby of the 4 and 5 star hotel and one of the restaurants Dutch!. The coming half year they will refurbish all of their hotel rooms, and will equip them with rain showers and new modern look and feel, and they have almost completed one of the 2 bars, The Imperial Bar.

Moritz brewery was built in Barcelona in 1864 at 41 Ronda de Sant Antoni. Still owned by the brewer, the original factory site has been refurbished into a new centre for leisure, entertainment and gastronomy. The venue has two spaces – The Vats Room for 160 delegates in the bare brick brew house area and Sala 39, a purpose built events space complete with special lighting features for up to 250 delegates on the basement floor of the factory.

The Ramada Hyde Park has been rebranded as the London Hyde Park Hotel. A Canadian group has bought ownership of the hotel, and following a full refurbishment the property is projected to become the DoubleTree by Hilton Hyde Park, to complement the nearby Hilton Hyde Park. The refurbishment is currently in planning stages, and is due in the next few years.

After a six-month renovation period, the Novotel World Forum in The Hague was officially reopened. All 216 rooms were converted to the new Novotel Next Up concept, in which spaciousness and comfort are key. Unique to this hotel is its direct connection with the World Forum Conference Centre. Food & Beverage facilities are shared, and the combination makes 21 conference and meeting rooms available for organisers using the Novotel.

Carlton House Terrace – The home of the British Academy – has just completed a million pound refurbishment that has taken over two years to complete. The central London venue is made up of two separate houses and event organisers now have the ability to use both seamlessly as they have been interconnected on each floor. In addition to a full restoration, the historic venue also benefits from three new lifts, new loos, a new kitchen, the latest AV in the auditorium and environmentally friendly lighting. It is also now fully DDA compliant.
