Jacqui’S Speaking At Chs North On 24Th March In Leeds

Jacqui's speaking at CHS North on 24th March in Leeds
Jacqui’s speaking at CHS North on 24th March in Leeds

There is growth in the economy and the commercial environment is changing, so how can event organisers prepare for a different world?  Jacqui Kavanagh, CEO of Trinity Event Solutions and Chair of the HBAA will be exploring how to get the best deal as we negotiate our way out of recession at Corporate Hospitality Show North on 24th March in Leeds.

We are seeing that the meetings industry is already operating in a different landscape as the role of a revenue manager in hotels and venues is becoming more important.  The trends that we are seeing are that: there is less opportunity for negotiation on rates; the rate offers are only valid for a set period of time leading to time pressures to make a decision; space is being managed more tightly with minimum numbers per room becoming more strict and contracts have a deadline for return and will be pulled if not signed swiftly.

This session will give you an understanding of how the changing environment will affect you.  It will also consider different approaches to placing business and give you the negotiation skills needed to get the best result for your event.  For the last few years it has been a buyers’ market, but as this is changing, you need to make sure that your business is the most attractive for the hotel or venue.   Are you aware of the market that the hotel is operating in and can you demonstrate that your business the most desirable for the venue?

Customers and key stakeholders who have entered the events industry in the last few years have never bought outside a recession and we all need to be prepared to make the most of new opportunities as we come out of the downturn and understand the risks and challenges that are facing us in the future.

Doing Business Better And Doing Better Business Together

Doing business better and doing better business together...
Doing business better and doing better business together…

The Kick Off Meeting prior to the HBAA’s Annual Dinner last week was a fabulous start to the year.   Jacqui Kavanagh of Trinity Event Solutions is the HBAA Chair for 2015 and her mantra for the year is ‘doing better business and doing better business together’.  She will be working alongside Venue Vice Chair, Hayley Stokes of Principal Hayley, who highlighted two words: embrace and engage; to use the HBAA’s new code of Practice to raise our industry’s professionalism and encourage all members to be involved in the broad range of HBAA meetings and events on offer. Each committee shared their headline objectives for 2015 and the association is looking forward to taking these forward throughout the year.

In the evening, the annual dinner was held at Chelsea Football Club, attended by more than 400 agents and venues. Thank you to the very generous HBAA members who donated such fabulous prizes for our on line charity auction in aid of The Who Cares? Trust; and thank you to everyone who placed a bid.  We raised over £12,500!

Congratulations to SilverDoor’s Business Partnerships Director, Stuart Winstone, who was presented with the prestigious Tim Gasson Award.

Trinity Visit Eibtm

Trinity visit EIBTM
Trinity visit EIBTM

The Trinity team was at EIBTM last week to improve their knowledge of international venues.   I think it’s fair to say that we’ve got great knowledge of the city and managed to see a lot of the hotels and know how it works for our clients.

EIBTM is a regular event in our calendar and we always make new contacts and it’s a great opportunity to find out what’s going on in the events industry. It was a tag-team operation, with Jacqui and Katharine going to Barcelona on Monday-Tuesday, Debbie, Laura & Russell on Wednesday-Thursday.

Between us we attended 77 appointments, but there was also time to visit other stands and get ideas.

Katharine also managed to see three unusual venues for dinners in Barcelona and carried out a site visit at the Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos.  Debbie stayed at the Crowne Plaza Fira Centre, hosted by Millenium Hotels and dined at Café Emma and then went on to the Hilton Barcelona on Thursday night so that she could visit key venues in the city Barcelona to extend her appreciation of what is available for our clients.  Laura stayed at the Melia Sky Barcelona & Hotel Silken Diagonal, hosted by Hotel Republic.  Russell stayed at the Majestic, then travelled to Madrid afterwards for site visits and get and understanding of how the city works for our clients.

Many thanks to Ellicis, Leading Hotels of the World, Fairmont, Hotel Republic and Millennium for hosting us.

New Venue Finding Initiative From Trinity And Venuefinder

New venue finding initiative from Trinity and venuefinder.com
New venue finding initiative from Trinity and venuefinder.com

venuefinder.com and Trinity Event Solutions have identified a need for a better approach to international venue finding and are sharing their resources to make the process quicker and easier for conference organisers and also deliver better quality leads to overseas venues.  The two companies have developed a results-led marketing strategy for international venues to put their information in front of the range of bookers that use the venuefinder.com website.

Firstly, the level of data will be increased to bring it in line with UK venues.  Secondly, there will be one point of contact for enquiries so that they can be qualified and given to the most appropriate venues to match the clients’ criteria.  This consultative approach fits with Trinity’s Destination Champion programme, where specialists give help and advice about the suitability and logistics of working in a city or region, because they understand the destination.  They understand the market and regularly carry out site visits and constantly work with the hotels, venues and destination management companies.  Thirdly, enquiries will be managed to help venues understand the priorities amongst the large volume of online and email traffic that is currently being generated.

Jacqui Kavanagh, MD of Trinity said, “This new approach will combine good buying and creativity for event organisers, whilst at the same time help hotels and venues convert enquiries to confirmed business more quickly.  www.venuefinder.com has long been established as the leading website for sourcing UK venues and we believe that this new initiative will make it the first-choice for organisers to find overseas venues as well.”

Publisher at venuefinder.com, Kate Hewitt added, “I’m really excited about this new combined initiative. Venuefinder.com has been working closely with Trinity Event Solutions for over 7 years now and we feel that our new approach really combines our shared company visions of providing excellent customer service and experience for both the users of the site and also the venues that we work closely with. Providing one point of contact and qualifying and managing the international leads should provide a much better service for our buyers and venues.”
