After a good chill out in the hotel we all got dressed up and went for dinner. Druids Glen has recently been awarded with double rosette in there restaurant and the food did not fail to impress, as we drank, ate and reflected on both the day and the night prior. After a satisfying meal we headed to the bar for a final drink while listening the live music and enjoying the last night of what had been an eventful and truly enjoyable weekend, made better by great company and outstanding hospitality from our hosts.

After a short respite we were on the move again, we were given our own individual golf carts and raced each other like kids to the next destination. We arrived at the driving range and it was time to try are hand at a spot of golf. After an hour of coaching, making leaps and bounds in our golfing expertise, we were all very tiered after a long day of activity’s and luckily for us it was time to head back to the hotel and have a rest and refresh before dinner (not after racing each other back in the golf carts of course).

We arrived at Druids Glen after a short bus journey (under 1 hour). For such a short journey the change in scenery was amazing we were transported to a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the Dublin City life. Upon entrance to Druid Glen we were greeted at the door with energising smoothie to wake us up after the nap that many had on the bus. We then had a brief tour of the hotel. The relaxing scenery was mirrored by the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel. All the rooms have large amounts of natural daylight pouring in and amazing views of the trees and golf course. We then went to see the old manor house that is now the golf club, where we viewed the space which would be great for an offsite dinner. We finished the tour having Guinness and oysters on the roof terrace enjoying the views.

The Teeling distillery is the only working whiskey distillery in Dublin. It also has a brilliant tour that is fully immersive and allows you to view all the stages of the whisky making process. The tour finished with a whiskey tasting at the end that allows you to understand the difference between Irish whiskey and the Scottish Whisky. Combined with the viewing of the process it gives you a very good understanding of how these differences occur. The tasting room would also work perfect for a dinner in a unique venue and can be combined with the tasting tour for an added unique touch.

Waking up on the Saturday not feeling 100% I was grateful for the well fitted room and after taking a long shower to wake myself up and enjoying a Full English breakfast. I was ready for the action packed Saturday we had planned. We next headed over to the Teeling Distillery.

When we returned for a brief freshen up at the Croke Park Hotel we could hear things livening up outside. We then ventured back across the road to see the stadium in full swing. The group was given a private box to see an Ed Sheeran concert and the atmosphere was immense. The event was very well organised with large amounts of staff and police keeping everything in order. After the event the stadium cleared in approximately 10 – 15 minutes and crowds of people either headed home or into the city for a big night out.

This is an incredibly impressive venue with a capacity of over 80,000 it is the 3rd largest stadium in Europe and the only one of the three not to show football or rugby to attract its crowds. Croke Park is the home of Hurling and Gaelic football and they are very proud of the history. We had the opportunity to practice our hurling skills and got an amazing tour of the venue including a “skywalk” on top of the stadium giving impressive views over the whole of Dublin.

Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to be invited on an educational trip to Dublin. After a smooth journey to Dublin I arrived at the airport and was greeted by my driver who took me to the Croke Park Hotel for a light lunch before doing a tour of the Croke Park Stadium.

Report From The Frhi Global Meeting Exchange In Monte Carlo

Last week I attended the FRHI Global Meeting Exchange in Monte Carlo, with 110 other event planners from the UK, Europe, the UAE, Asia Pacific and the USA. The four-day event was a mixture of one-to-one meetings with representatives from Fairmont, Raffles and Swissotel properties, workshops, syndicates sessions and activities which showcased Monte Carlo. It was a great educational opportunity with corporate organisers, agents, hoteliers and DMCs discussing the challenges and changes in the MICE industry, exchanging information and discussing how we can work better together for the best outcome.

One of the highlights of this event was a presentation from Dr Gerard Lyons, Chief Economic Advisor to the Mayor of London, on the current state of the world economic and what we can expect in the future.

Whilst I was in Monte Carlo, I also took the opportunity to take a look a some of the key properties:

The Fairmont Hotel

This hotel is four-star and located next to the Casino. It is built over the sea and has great views of the city from the roof top. There are 18 meeting rooms, including a ballroom which will hold 900 people for a dinner or meeting. The Fairmont has 602 bedrooms, spa, Nikki Beach rooftop pool and fitness centre.

The Grimaldi Forum

This is Monaco’s conference and exhibition centre, located on the eastern beach. It is a glass pyramid and contemporary in style. The Grimaldi Forum can offer 3 auditoriums, 11 meeting rooms that can be divided into smaller sections (maximum 22) and 4 areas for exhibitions or catering. There are large foyer areas with centrally located escalators to move people around the building easily. The Fairmont, Le Meridien Beach and Monte Carlo Bay hotels are all within walking distance.

The Monte Carlo Bay Hotel

The Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort is located at the end of the eastern beach and surrounded by gardens and the sea. It is a 5-star hotel with 334 bedrooms, spa, swimming pool and restaurants. There are 15 flexible meeting rooms all on the first floor and the largest room has capacity for up to 270 people.

However, my trip to Monte Carlo wasn’t all work. There were two activity sessions: a treasure hunt around the rock, palace and harbour area which gave us the chance to see the city and the chance to explore the Cote d’Azur by rib boat and helicopter or in classic cars.

In the evenings we experienced three different venues, which are all available for groups. The Nikki Beach is on the roof of the Fairmont Monte with great views of the city and sea as well as the famous GP hairpin. There was gala dinner at the Oceanographic Museum, with a drinks reception in the aquarium and this venue has roof top space which can be used too. We also spent an evening at Key Largo, a private villa, which used to be the harbourmaster’s offices at the end of the quay. The drinks and food were arranged around the pool and the helipad was transformed in to party space and dance floor.

Trinity’S Visit To Imex 2015

Our team of international venue finders attended an excellent IMEX forum last week in Frankfurt. It was a great opportunity to meet new contacts, re-affirm existing partnerships and get a host of updates on changes afoot in our key destinations.

Everyone found that Frankfurt Airport was easy to negotiate as there lots of IMEX staff directing delegates to their transfer coaches. With bags labelled and delivered straight to the hotel to pick up at check-in in the evening, the process was very easy and the bus ride was only 15-20 minutes to the Messe. Despite the fact that we were unable to print off our badges prior to the event, the actual process of obtaining them from the support desk on arrival was very efficient and surprisingly quick.

Debbie Beresford was hosted by Hilton and stayed at the Hilton Frankfurt. A large hotel in the heart of Frankfurt city centre close to the Opera House. There are 16 meeting rooms that can host up to 585 people and nearly all have natural daylight. Despite its size the reception was very welcoming and large open area conducive to relaxed and informal networking.

Hilton host a wonderful networking event in the evening at the Mantis Rooftop Terrace. It was a fabulous space, and although mostly outdoor was kept warm with subtle heaters. There was also a circular bar/dining room that provided an ideal indoor alternative. The BBQ food was faultless and plentiful with a range of options for all dining requirements. The team at Hilton were welcoming hosts, passionate about their properties and went the extra mile to make sure their guests had plenty of opportunities to network but in a relaxed way.

Russell Price stayed at the Radisson Blu Frankfurt. The circular shaped hotel is a striking sight within the area and once inside it offers a very modern and quite stylish hotel. The hotel lobby area, where drinks reception for the evening was hosted, is large with high ceilings. All the meeting space is then self-contained on the first floor with the vast majority of rooms offering conference space with floor to ceiling windows and double height ceilings that made the meeting space seem large, airy and offered great spaces for meetings and conferences.

After the drinks reception food stalls were opened throughout the lobby and restaurant offering a fantastic range of food with enough quantity to substantially feed everyone after a busy day at IMEX. Then the entertainment moved through to the showroom where there was a live band and a fantastic party enjoyed by all the guests. It was a great event put on by Carlson Rezidor and their hospitality was great throughout.

George Harriman-Hardy thought that the layout of the floor at IMEX was very well done providing easy navigation around the event. The only time there was any difficulty was when there was a very large stand that incorporated multiple exhibitors within it. He was fortunate enough to being hosted by Rocco Forte. The Villa Kennedy by Rocco Forte in Frankfurt is a luxury 5* hotel that is situated approximately 10 minutes from the IMEX exhibition. The exterior of the property is striking with turreted towers and castle like features. Inside the property is far from castle like with luxurious rooms and a beautiful spa.

After relaxing in the room for a while and getting changed it was time for the evening event that was previously labelled “Kitchen Party” but I had no idea what I was in store for. Upon arrival we were handed personalised Rocco Forte aprons. Instantly making all people attending this event think that we were to be cooking our own dinner. After some champagne and cocktails we ventured into the kitchen. There was a DJ playing live music in the corner and we were invited into the main area of the kitchen to stand by the chefs, watch them in action and eat the food that was prepared there and then. The food was fantastic and is one of the main things I will take away from this is that the new Rocco Forte meetings package means that all delegates will get this quality of food at their meetings.

After the majority of the eating and drinking was done we headed to the deserts cleverly located in the area of the kitchen near the DJ. We were then joined by Sir Rocco who gave a speech and went around talking with all of us. Shortly after a band proceeded to arrive and play live music for the next few hours where everyone sung and danced and had a very enjoyable night even Rocco himself was throwing some shapes on the dancefloor. Rocco Forte where absolutely fantastic throughout and provided a truly memorable experience for all those involved.

Shani Lees was hosted by Marriott and met with several of their representatives. On their stand they had ipads set up for interactive sessions during a presentation of their Marriott Meetings Imagined so that buyers could actually experience creating their own customised meeting. Many of the exhibition stands were very creative with their hospitality and activities like chocolate sniffing from the Visit Denmark stand and salted liquorice treats from Sweden were both new to me.

The Marriott and the Maritim hotels are perfectly located, both just a few minutes’ walk from the Messe and IMEX. The Marriott Frankfurt is a contemporary hotel with a spacious reception, including a small café lounge where you can pick up a ‘grab and go’ breakfast coffee and pastry if you don’t have time for the full restaurant offering. My bedroom on the 47th floor gave me lovely views across the city. My hosts then transported us to the beautiful Kameha Suite, a listed building sandstone villa built in the 1890’s with traditional features including vaulted ceilings, marble pillars and a very impressive double staircase and balcony which lent itself perfectly to an evening of cocktails, canapes and networking. A very energetic female jazz violinist leapt onto the low table next to me to start the evening’s musical entertainment and was very well received. Day 2 started with a wonderful breakfast served in the Ballroom to set me up for another round of appointments.

We all returned from IMEX exhausted, but it was a really valuable trip in terms of learning about new hotels, venues and destinations, so time well spent.

Hbaa Golf Day At The Menzies Welcombe Hotel

On Thursday 14th May I attended the HBAA Golf Day at Menzies Welcombe Hotel in Stratford upon Avon. After driving from Stamford on the morning of the event the weather got gradually worse as I got closer to Menzies Welcombe Hotel.

Menzies Welcome Hotel is easy to find and has two separate entrances, one for the hotel and one for the golf clubhouse. The facilities at the clubhouse were excellent as participants gathered, registered and took a very hearty breakfast. After a short time of networking and catching up with other contacts in the industry, the brief welcome speech was given before I then headed out onto the range to warm up. Shortly after we made the way to our tees for a shot gun start and teed off at midday. It wasn’t long until the rain started to get heavier. In the end, it rained for the entire round.

Depsite the weather, the course was in good condition and it was a fair test for all levels of ability. There were some great feature holes on the course, not least the 17th, starting from in front of the hotel and teeing off over a long stretch of water. All in all, it is certainly a golf course I would recommend and wish to play again in improved weather.

After golf participants made their way to the main hotel for prize-giving and dinner. The hotel building is a stunning old country house originally built in 1866. The Welcombe Suite, where dinner was served, had large windows over looking the grounds and both the food and service were excellent.

Thanks to Menzies for their hospitality throughout the day, despite the weather not being the most suited to a golf day!

Hbaa Come Dine With Us

Trinity Event Solutions took part in one of these events at The Crown Hotel in Stamford which was supported by 16 people split equally between agents and venues. A welcome speech was given by the chairman of the HBAA and CEO of Trinity, Jacqui Kavanagh. This included the launch of the HBAA code of practice, forthcoming events including the annual forum and an overview of the ‘Big Site Visit Weekend’ charity initiative which aims to raise £100,000 this year.

The networking event started with pre-dinner drinks and followed by a three course meal. Agents were given fixed seating at the dinner table and venues sat at the remaining spaces giving opportunity for networking. After the main course, a seat change for the venues was initiated providing yet another networking opportunity. The event, which took place over a 3 hour period, was very successful and a large number of the Stamford attendees were not local and had travelled some distance. This highlighted the importance that both agents and venues give to the HBAA networking events.

The ‘HBAA Come Dine With Us’ networking event took place on Tuesday 28^th April in 13 different locations across the country and was attended by over 200 agents and venues.

How To Cut Costs And Add Tangible Value Through Effective Site Visits

Invitation to the Meetings Voice Academy on Friday 12th June 2015

Concept: The purpose of the Meetings Voice Training Academy is to provide training relevant to the Meetings Voice community to include technical and industry topics which are identified at the Meetings Voice Forums. The day is free of charge to attend and will run from 9am until approx. 2pm. The event is designed to be very interactive and fast paced. Suppliers will be at the event and all attendees will be required to attend a minimum of 3 appointment sessions with suppliers in pre-set appointments during the coffee break and a further 3 during lunch where the suppliers will give a 5 minute business card exchange before we start lunch. These are kept to a minimum as the suppliers will also be invited to attend all sessions of the training as well but there will be a business card exchange prior to lunch and a Leaders Panel Discussion over lunch.

Trinity Raises £20,000 For Local Charities

For the second year running Trinity Event Solutions has raised £20,000 for local charities through their Triple Challenge. On Tuesday, 7 April 2015, the Stamford-based venue finding and event management company celebrated the success of this initiative by presenting cheques to Hospital at Home, the Children’s Air Ambulance and the Sue Ryder Hospice, Thorpe Hall. These three charities were chosen by staff at the beginning of the year as part of Trinity’s on-going CSR programme.

The Trinity team visited 520 hotels and conference venues over one weekend July 2014, many of which donated prizes for an online auction. 329 people registered on the Trinity Triple Challenge auction website and placed 1,450 bids for 272 auction lots.

Nilesh Patel, Hospice Fundraiser at Sue Ryder, Thorpe Hall Hospice said: “The support we continue to receive from Trinity Event Solutions is hugely appreciated. This latest donation of £6,670 will go towards our Appeal to build a state of the art hospice which will ensure we continue to provide incredible hospice care for the people of this community for generations to come.” Sophie Burt, National Partnerships Manager – North, The Air Ambulance Service said: “The Children’s Air Ambulance are very grateful to be supported by Trinity Event Solutions’ online charity auction for another year. This brilliant initiative raises a wonderful sum of money and we appreciate the huge amount of work that goes into it by the team at Trinity. The Children’s Air Ambulance is changing the face of paediatric care in the transfer of critically ill children in the UK. By providing a dedicated air transfer service for children free of charge, we are empowering clinicians across the country to make the decisions they need to, without a second thought to the implications of cost. The fact that we do not receive any Government funding makes supports such as Trinity absolutely invaluable.”

Jacqui Kavanagh, CEO of Trinity Event Solutions was delighted with the fund-raising and commented: “This was a huge achievement and I would like to thank all the hotels and venues for supporting us, as well as the whole team who gave up their time and put a lot of work into making this a success. This initiative supports our CSR policy and we are delighted to make a contribution to local charities that will really make a big difference to their work.”
